Car looking a little worse for wear? Save yourself some time washing the car this weekend and use our handy hacks.
After all the beach visits comes the muddy walks with the onset of Autumn so our cars tend to need a little TLC this time of year. In between rain showers and windy day's it can be hard staying on top of car hygiene but we've rounded up some of our top hacks to help keep things in order across the week so you won't have to spend an age at the weekend cleaning.
Clean your cupholders with an old sock
Ever struggle to get the hoover into those small places to suck up all those crumbs, or even worse, you put your hand in the cup holder and get it jammed in there? Yeah that's not a very nice experience. Well instead of using multiple wipes or giving up entirely why not try our sock hack?
Grab a cup or tumbler and wrap it with a clean old soak that’s been soaked in all purpose cleaner. Pop the wrapped cup into the cupholder, let it sit for a few minutes and then apply some pressure, turn it and press it against the cupholder to scrub away any dirt and grime.
(Want to thank your future self? Pop a cupcake liner in the cupholders to stop any crumbs or leaks and save yourself the hassle of cleaning them!)
Clean your headlights with toothpaste
You might have heard this one before. Your headlights are so important but how often do you inspect them to make sure they are actually clean?
We've a simple concoction to help clean that hard grime and fogginess. All you need to do is squeeze some toothpaste (just not your expensive whitener one) onto a damp cloth and mix in some baking soda! Apply this paste to the headlights and scrub in a circular motion. Tah-dah! Your headlights will be shining bright like a diamond once again.
Olive Oil my dashboard
Nope, you’ve read that right, olive oil isn’t just for your salad. Those fancy wipes and dashboard sprays can be expensive, full of chemicals and sometimes just push the dirt around the place rather than remove it.
Instead check your kitchen cupboards and grab some olive oil and paper towels/kitchen roll. Make sure to fully wipe off any excess oil with your paper towels or it’ll collect dust.
Dead Bugs be gone!
A handy one after any weekend road trips is cleaning flies and wasps off the car. You can use drier sheets to get them off, honestly it works. You can also use WD-40 likely laying around in your tool box under the kitchen sink and spray a bit onto the car grill, works a treat. Plus if you spray WD-40 on your hood or roof and rinse it with soapy water it can also remove bird droppings which are a nightmare to get rid off as well as sticky tree sap!
