Comprehensive Insurance
Check out our simple guide on the basics of comprehensive car insurance and how it can protect you from the unexpected.
What is comprehensive car insurance?
Comprehensive insurance is the highest level of cover and provides you with the maximum protection. Sometimes also known as “fully-comp".
It covers your car, other people's cars and any costs associated with injuries involved in an accident. It’s different to third party fire & theft which only offers a basic level of cover.
What is covered with fully comprehensive car insurance?
- Damage to other people’s cars, properties, and injury to other people
If any third parties are involved in an incident, your insurance will cover damage to their vehicle and the cost of other claims including medical expenses.
- Windscreen replacement/repair is included
This covers the cost of having glass replaced or repaired on any of the windows on your car.
- Personal accident
This provides cover to YOU - the driver - if you’re injured and need to pay for any of your medical expenses such as a physiotherapist.
- Limited key care
Depending on the policy and insurer, you may have limited key care cover. For complete cover and protection, you can add our SmartFob keycare as an optional extra to your policy.
Why should I have comprehensive insurance?
For many, being "fully comp" can offer the best value. It will cover the cost of your own car and any injuries you may have as a result of the accident.
Is comprehensive car insurance cheaper?
Some drivers believe it’s much more expensive to opt for higher-level cover, but you might find that comprehensive car insurance works out just as cheap!
Why?
Lots of high-risk drivers tend to go for third party only options believing it may help reduce the cost of their insurance price. But studies show that they were likely to be in more accidents which actually pushed up the average third party premium for all customers.
Can you drive someone else’s car under fully-comp?
So, let’s demystify this one. Many people believe if you’re fully comp and over 25, you can drive anyone’s car however this isn’t always the case – it really does depend on your insurer.
It’s always best to double check your policy docs.
If you’re a Stroll customer, you can find this info in your car insurance Certificate, which you can view in your customer account.
If you do have permission to drive other cars, remember it only covers you for third party insurance, so if you’re driving their car and have an accident, it might put you out of pocket.
Does windscreen cover come with fully comp?
Yes, as part of most standard comprehensive insurance policies, windscreen care is covered.
